Scarsdale Little League is proud to be a part of the following sportsmanship awards. The finalists and award
winners are recognized at our annual Opening Day and Super Saturday festivities. Award winners receive a
gift from Scarsdale Little League or a donation in the winner's name along with a trophy or plaque noting
their accomplishment.
Kindergarten Sportsmanship Awards
Beginning in 2017, Scarsdale Little League asks K coaches to nominate a player on their K team who
exemplifies good sportsmanship and sets a sterling example for how all of our Little Leaguers should handle
themselves on the field. This sportsmanship award goes to a player on each team who cheers on his/her
teammates, listens to his/her coaches, has good attendance at games and practices, and always has a good
attitude while showing enthusiasm for the game.
Michael Ludwig Sportsmanship Award
Each year, Scarsdale Little League awards a 4th grade baseball player the Michael Ludwig Sportsmanship
Award. The award was created in 2009 to celebrate the life of Michael Ludwig, the son of Lisa Nelson Ludwig
and Ed Ludwig, who “lived for Little League baseball." The award is given to an individual who combines the
mix of outstanding teamwork and sportsmanship, excellent skills and a passion for the game.
Paul U. Jimenez Inspirational Award
Scarsdale Little League is honored to be working with the #PaulieStrong Foundation, started by the Jimenez
family of Scarsdale in 2016 in honor and loving memory of their ten-year-old son, Paul Ulysses Jimenez, who
was diagnosed with a rare form of soft tissue cancer. The foundation aims at increasing funding and
awareness for pediatric cancer, and all funds raised go directly to the Pediatric Oncology Team at Memorial
Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY.
The inaugural Paul U. Jimenez Inspirational Award was given in 2017 and is awarded to an Atlantic Division
baseball player each year who embodies the way that Paul lived his life with passion and enthusiasm for the
sport of baseball. Paul had a true love for the game, for his teammates, coaches and for the opportunity to
compete. This can be seen in countless photos of Paul at baseball games and practices smiling and enjoying
himself. Paul’s perseverance, efforts at self-improvement, and positive attitude not only in baseball, but
in facing his illness were truly inspirational.
Hometown Hero Award
Beginnning with Opening Day 2019, Scarsdale Little League created the Hometown Hero Award which will be
presented annually to an alumnus of Scarsdale Little League who remains involved in baseball as a
student-athlete and who makes significant hands-on charitable/volunteer contributions. The high school age
student-athlete must still play baseball on some level (varsity, junior varsity, or club) to be considered
with the main criteria for the award that the nominee makes significant local or national contributions
through charity, philanthropy or volunteer work, demonstrates leadership qualities in these activities and
in athletics, and is a caring, active, hands-on participant in their chosen charity/organization. Scarsdale
Little League honors the award winner with a donation to a charity of his/her choice.
