SCARSDALE LITTLE LEAGUE BOARD
Spectators at Monday's American Division Championship Game witnessed a hardfought rematch between the Mariners and the Angels, who had met in the previous week's semifinal game. When the Angels prevailed in that earlier game by 9-4, the Mariners were forced to take the hard road to the finals, with a nail-biting 4-3 win over the Royals in last Friday's second semifinal of this double elimination tournament. On Monday, the Mariners rode that momentum to a resounding 11-2 victory to take the championship. The Mariners' dynamic pitching duo of Jeff Lutzker and Caleb Krohn combined with the watertight Mariners defense to limit the Angels to 2 runs over the first 5 innings, then yielded to Jake Levitt who pitched a flawless 6th to nail down the championship for the Mariners. The game started with promise for the Angels in the bottom of the 1st, when they took the lead with a run scored by James Nicholas on Michael Lipsitz' clutch 2 out bouncer, but
that was the only tally they would manage against the fireballing Lutzker, who worked the first 3 innings with aplomb. The Mariners struck back in the top of the 2nd, stringing together hits and walks by Jeff Lutzker, Arthur Noulas, Quin Landsberg and Griffin Dune to tally 3 and take a lead they would not relinquish. In the 4th, the Mariners struck again, combining hits, walks, and some help from the Angels' suddenly imperfect defense to push the lead to 9-1. The crushing blow came when Spencer Planit scorched a triple to right. The Angels hitters managed some shots of their own, with Jake Schechner and Jon Greenberg stroking doubles, but only Greenberg came 'round to score, on Ari Leffell's single in the bottom of the 4th. The Mariners pitchers refused to allow the Angels' vaunted offense to string together hits as they had done in compiling 3 straight playoff victories to reach the final game the easy way. The Mariners
squeezed across 2 more in the 5th, with Armaan Shah contributing a clutch single. After Jake Levitt put down the Angels batters 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 6th, the Mariners players celebrated their well-earned triumph in a happy tumult. Congratulations to the Mariners and to all the American Division teams for a great season of top-flight baseball!
ATLANTIC CHAMPIONSHIP:
The Atlanctic Championship game was played under the most perfect conditions at CX3 on Monday evening. It may have been sunny but thunder was emanating from the RED’s potent batting order. Excellent pitching was also a big factor in this game. The Big Red Machine rolled to the Atlantic League title defeating the "never say die" Cubs 5-2. Riding great pitching, excellent defense and timely hitting the REDS showed why they were the league leader in wins. The Reds improved throughout the season and peaked entering the playoffs. It seemed that every player stepped up and made a big play in the field or at the plate in the Championship game. A big congratulations to the Reds players and the REDS coaches on a job well done.
PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP:
In the Pacific League Championship, played at the Little League field CX-3, the Indians beat the Jays by a final score of 17-10. The Indians were led by super pitching by Daniel Berkson and Arlen Tzamarot. Daniel gave up five first inning runs and then pitched 3 shutout innings after that. The big hits came from Matt Greenberg, Aaron Hirsch, Zach Hill and Mikhayl Abrahams-all were 4 for 4.
The Jays showed their toughness by rallying for 5 runs in the last inning, but came up short. Ben Giove, Harrison Novick, Jack Baldinger and Andrew Gingi were among the Jays who had clutch hits in the strong attempt to come back. But, in the end, the Indians claimed the championship. Congratulations to all the Indians and their coaches for a great season. Well done!

In accordance with the rules of Little League International, including the 2010 calendar year season, all non-wood bats used in Little League Baseball must be printed with a BPF (Bat Performance Factor) of 1.15 or less. Any unlabeled or non conforming can not be used.
In anticipation of this new requirement, many age appropriate bats manufactured in the past few years already display this designation, but check your bat to be sure.
Bats made of wood do not need a BPF designation.
Please be advised of two safety rules that have been enacted by Scarsdale Little League. They are in effect for the entire 2010 season.
1. Once thunder is heard or lightening is seen, all players must immediately leave the field and move under cover (i.e., sit in cars). They are not to sit in dugouts. Players shall not be permitted to return to the field until 20 minutes has elapsed since the last thunder clap was heard or lightening bolt seen.
2. In all situations where a parent is pitching, all players that are pitchers helpers shall be positioned no closer to the batter than the pitcher and shall wear a batting helmet.
For the 2010 season, all pitcher's helpers must wear a helmet regardless of grade. Coaches must enforce this rule as well as all umpires. This is in light of recent mishaps and injuries in many communities that play little league.
LITTLE LEAGUE COACHES:
A requirement for our Little League charter and our insurance policy, we need to perform background checks on each manager and coach in the Little League program.
Please contact the Grade Coordinator for more information.
